How to modify the Cisco WiFi router using the Optimal Channel?

The Optimal channel can significantly boot the network speed of your Cisco Wi-Fi router. Setting your router with it is convenient as it is least busy or least congested as only a few devices broadcast and use it. Cisco Support Australia would like to inform you that connection varies depending on the physical location of the router. There is no standard channel to use it but it is easy to be accessed. Perform the following:

Perform these Steps to figure out the Optimal Channel:

  • Use a Wi-Fi scanner to scan the network: One of the good tools that can perform network scanning is inSSIDer. You can download this tool on your system from http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

  • Set the frequency: Select between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels.

  • Many models of Cisco Wi-Fi routers support 5 GHz. If we compare to 2.4 GHz then 5 GHz has less traffic.

  • Choose the channel you wish to use, Do the sorting of the network by the channel and later scan the results. Choose the channel with the least number of networks. This is the optimal channel that the fewest no. of users or routers broadcasting thought it.

Steps to configure the Cisco Router:

  • Set the IP address of the router: Open the Cisco router’s configuration page. 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of the router.

  • Make sure that during the router setup it may have been changed, so make sure you use the correct one.

  • Now log in as admin using the correct credentials into the configuration page.

  • Go to wireless menu by clicking on “Wireless” to access the page of Wireless Settings.

  • Review the wireless settings and make sure that everything is correct here. You want to focus on the settings for 5GHz.

  • Click the settings for “Channel”. Click the optimal channel you got
    the from the scan results.

  • Hit the Save Settingsbutton, on the bottom part of the page to save the made changes.
