How to change DNS server on Cisco router

There is a technology standard which manages names of public websites and another internet domain is known as Domain Name System. It permits the user to type names in their Web browser like google.com and the user's system will find that address automatically over the internet. An important component of the DNS is a worldwide collection of servers.

Let’s learn and see how to change DNS server from LAN setup menu on Cisco router:

1. The user must sign in to their Cisco router either from http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.254, depends on their router model.

2. Select or click on the Setup option from the menu available at the top of the page.

3. Select the LAN setup option from the menu below the Setup option.

4. Enter the primary DNS server the user would like to use in the LAN 1 Static DNS 1 field.

5. Now, enter secondary DNS server in the LAN 1 Static DNS 2 field.

6. There might be a possibility that the user's modem have LAN 1 Static DNS 3 field which can be left blank or the user can enter another server.

7. At the bottom of the page, Save Settings option is available. Save the changes made.

There are some Cisco routers that may ask you to restart the router to make the necessary changes. If not, all the changes will be applied right after selecting Save Settings.

If the user cannot open their modem configuration page using the addresses mentioned above, then they can look for it in Default Password List for the default IP address and other default login data, for their specific Cisco router.

Note: These steps can be different for the router if the user has a co-branded Cisco-Linksys router. Some of the models require different methods to reach the DNS server settings but the manual our team will provide will be 100% fit for your model.
